Missions

The Mission Board is responsible, for encouraging the congregation to share the Gospel and for coordinating Christian social concerns.

Some recent projects the Mission Board has supported include:

  • Operation Christmas Child, collection of shoebox gifts for children around the world, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse. www.samaritanspurse.org
  • Shoeman Water Project, collection of shoes to provide clean water to undeveloped countries. www.shoemanwater.org
  • Lutheran World Relief Fair Trade sales to benefit the poor. www.lwr.org
  • Semi-annual Mission Festivals to draw attention to missions, far and near.
  • Warrensburg Food Center to staff volunteers and provide donations.
  • CROP Hunger Walk to raise money for Church World Service and Warrensburg Food Center. www.cwsglobal.org
  • Christmas Store to provide holiday meals to needy families in Johnson County.
  • Haskell Indian Nations University LIGHT (Lutheran Indians Gathering and Helping Together) is the Lutheran Student Ministry at Haskell Indian Nations University, located in Lawrence, Kansas. www.haskelllight.org
  • Day service events at Show-Me Christian Youth Home (www.show-mehome.com) in La Monte, the Migrant Farmworkers Project in Lexington www.migrantfarmworkersproject.org and Lutheran Urban Mission Agency in Kansas City. www.lumakc.org
  • Festival of Sharing, an interfaith event that takes place annually in Sedalia.

Join Us for:

  • Shoeman Water Project shoe collection from Easter through Ascension. Shoes can be dropped in the collection box in the north entrance.
  • 12-13 April for Spring Mission Festival
  • Volunteer to work at the Food Center in June 

The board meets the second Thursday of each month at 5 p.m., with Ellen Pederson as the chair. Members include Judy Schache, Karen Haase, Carolyn Ohrenberg, Mike Greife, and Nola Utchman.
